Description
Endophytic renal masses are completely surrounded by normal renal parenchyma. They represent distinct challenges in locating them intraoperatively and thus also during their resection.
Resection of peripherally located endophytic tumors involves minimal loss of renal parenchyma.
However, resection of a deep and centrally located tumor, may compromise the vascularity of remaining renal parenchyma when using a wedge resection technique. This loss can however be avoided by resecting the tumor by bivalving the kidney in two halves known as Anatrophic nephrotomy.
