- The nerve-sparing step of the robotic prostatectomy is a tissue dissection step critical to preserve the neurovascular bundles that surround the prostate. The neurovascular bundles are believed to be instrumental for preservation of sexual function after prostate cancer surgery. In our video we describe our novel approach to deconstruct this step into its granular moment-to-moment maneuvers call “surgical gestures.” These gestures form the building blocks to which any surgery can be deconstructed into. Utilizing these sequences of gestures and machine learning models, we predict how patients after the prostatectomy will recovery sexual function after surgery.
